Morgan Hill, Calif. - Dr. Virgil E. Erickson, 94, formerly of Crookston and long-standing member of the medical staff at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, died Wednesday, Nov. 30 following a brief illness. He is survived locally by a nephew, John Sampson, of Thief River Falls. Dr. Erickson was a believer in bedside diagnosis and the SCVMC Department of Medicine recently created the “Virgil E. Erickson Award for Excellence in History and Physical Exam,” which is given to the intern who demonstrates outstanding skills in bedside diagnosis. A memorial service and interment took place at the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston on Thursday, Dec. 8.  |
