Newfolden - Kathryn M. Fick, 60, of Newfolden, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Kathryn M. Friese Fick was born on Feb. 8, 1951 in Little Falls, the daughter of Reuben and Cyrilla (Ley) Friese. As a young child, she was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. She attended school in Hastings.
On Nov. 23, 1968 Kathryn was united in marriage to James Fick in New Trier, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together, they raised their family of four children: James, Jason, Mindy and Misty. They lived in southern Minnesota for several years, moved to Holt in 1978, and eventually to Newfolden, where they have since made their home.
Kathryn loved spending time with her family and adored her children and grandchildren. She was the kind of mom everyone should have - always having fun with her children while instilling values and teaching valuable life lessons. Kathryn was affectionately known as “Grandma Duck” by her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included sewing and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, James of Newfolden; children, James (Lisa) Fick of Lansing, Mich., Jason (Janelle) Fick of Viking, Mindy (Tim) Corbin of Clarksville, Tenn., and Misty (Dennis) Kurilla of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Fick, Quentin Klemin, Ariel Corbin, Ethan Fick, Kaiden Fick, Collin Klemin, Ryan Fick, Joseph Fick and Mason Kurilla; brother, Gene (Bonnie) Friese of Welch; sister, Paulette (Ken) Friesen of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Don Pommerening of Rochester; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Preceding Kathryn in death are her parents; a baby in infancy, and her sister, Lorraine.
