 Thief River Falls - Ethel Jeanette Forsberg, 94, Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 28 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Pastor Mark Helgeland officiating. Casket bearers included Ethel’s grandsons: Jeff, Mark, Kelly, Wade, Troy, Travis, Darin, Mark, Alan and Allen. Honorary casket bearers included Ethel’s granddaughters: Valerie, Veronica, Debbie, Laura, Kristy, Jackie, Rebecca, Renae, Rachael, Shawn, Karen, Theresa and Jennifer. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Ethel Jeanette Nelson was born Nov. 6, 1917 in Clearbrook, to Emil and Nora Marie (Ness) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Clearbrook. She was united in marriage to Palmer Norvald Forsberg, June 12, 1938. To this union, 11 children were born. Ethel was a homemaker for many years and worked as a waitress for several restaurants in Thief River Falls as well as Clearbrook, Fosston and Bagley. In her earlier years, she enjoyed singing and playing guitar. Her many interests included bingo, crocheting, gardening, and dancing. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Heritage Center and VFW auxiliary. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with family. Ethel is survived by her children, Larry (Lavonne) Forsberg, Thief River Falls, Lavonne (Roger) Kurrle, Duluth, Roger (Sharon) Forsberg, Thief River Falls, David (Barb) Forsberg, Thief River Falls, Michael (Lynne) Forsberg, Elkton, S.D., Sandra (Dean) Stewart, New Hope, Steven (Helen) Forsberg, Faribault, Julie (Bruce) Kucker, Watertown, S.D., Susan (Jon) Aaseby, Maple Grove, and Laurie Forsberg, Grand Forks, N.D.; 23 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother Walter (Joanne) Nelson, Minneapolis; half-brother Bill (Borgie) Krohg, Minneapolis, and half-sister Arnelda Southworth, Cloquet. She is preceded in death by her husband Palmer (1984); infant son Richard; brothers, Ed, Selmer, and Henry Nelson; sisters, Agda Klinke, Arvilla Enloe and Victoria Nelson.
