 Alexandria - John Dennis Loyland, 78, formerly of Goodridge, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 in Alexandria. John’s funeral and burial were held in Alexandria on Saturday, Nov. 19. John was born on June 28, 1933 on his grandparents’ farm in Fisher, the son of Olaf and Myrle Loyland. He grew up in Goodridge and began working at a young age on the Gun Flint Trail, driving a gravel truck on the North Shore Drive. He began working at the Soo Line Railroad in 1956 and continued working there until he retired as a railroad engineer 40-plus years later. John is survived by five children, Bob (Bonnie), Kathy (Mark), Lynn, Laura, Debbie; sister, Joyce Rudd, and brother, Clayton (Betty) Loiland; grandchildren, John and Tessa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Myrtle; one son, Richard; and his wife, Pat and brother, Julian. A00003B2011NV23  |
