    Thief River Falls - Jacob Bernier, 17, of Thief River Falls, passed away after a life-long battle with heart disease on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
    Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 10  at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, with Rev. Joseph Abrahamson officiating.  Casket bearers included Adam Lundeen, Brian Lundeen, Nate Lundeen, Cole Bernier, Cameron Lundeen and Matt Abrahamson. Honorary casket bearers included all of his many Camp Odayin and Bible Camp friends. Interment was held at Oak Park Cemetery.  
    Jacob Robert Bernier was born on Dec. 23, 1993, to Jona Robert and Alison Joy (Lundeen) Bernier in Fargo, N.D.  He was born with multiple congenital heart defects. As an infant, he had heart surgery at Mayo in October 1994 and then again in April 1997. He valiantly fought through his life with his health, but that didn’t stop him from being an active child.  He was baptized at Oak Park Lutheran Church by Pastor Daniel Faugstad on Jan. 9, 1994, and his uncle Adam Lundeen was his godfather and sponsor was Jennifer Bernier-Linder. He attended Kindergarten in Oklee. He has been home schooled from that time and was currently a junior.  
    Jacob was confirmed on May 3, 2009 at Oak Park Church by Pastor Abrahamson. His Christian Faith was strong. He served as usher at Oak Park Church and was in the youth group. He enjoyed spending time at Camp Odayin with friends who had congenital heart disease.  
    Jacob and his family enjoyed a Make A Wish trip in August 2006 to Rainy Lake and International Falls. That Christmas he was an honored guest at the Make a Wish Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Mall of America.  He was an outdoorsman and loved nature. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his dog Dandelion who he would sleep with on the floor. His siblings looked up to him, and they enjoyed being with each other.  He loved pizza, tacos, and chips and salsa.  He spent much of his spare time with Olivia Kilen and her dog Oaklee.
    He is survived by his parents, Jona and Alison Bernier, Thief River Falls; sister Trisha, Minnesota State University Moorhead;  brothers, Noah,and Joshua, both at home; paternal grandparents, Robert and Emily Bernier, Oklee; maternal grandparents, Kelly and Connie Lundeen, Trail; great-grandparents, Laura Nadeau, Elk River, Darrow and Shirley Lundeen, Trail, Wallace Nelson, Brooks; aunts and uncles, Jenny (Ted) Linder, Oklee, Cole Bernier, Oklee, Adam (Janelle) Lundeen, Bemidji, Brian (Beth) Lundeen, Thief River Falls, Nate (Sarah) Lundeen, Bemidji, Kyla (Joe) Coauette, Fargo, N.D.; cousins:  Sophia Linder, Owen and Caleb Lundeen, Cade, Chloe, Griffin, Ian Lundeen, Ty, Mya, and Whitney Lundeen, and many other relatives and friends.
    Jacob was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Ed and Cecile Bernier and Emile Nadeau, Doris Nelson; and great-great-grandpa?Fred Lundeen.
