Gonvick? - Ordean Birkeland, 79, of Gonvick, Minnesota died on October 10, 2011 at First Care Medical Services in Fosston, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN with the Reverend Jill Torgerson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, MN and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, Minnesota. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements. Military rites will be accorded by the Gonvick American Legion Post #304. Ordean was born July 6, 1932 in Oklee, Minnesota the son of Sigurd and Carrie (Moen) Birkeland. He grew up in Oklee and graduated from Oklee High School in 1949. Ordean enlisted into the United States Army following graduation honorably serving our country. Ordean moved to Silver Bay and worked as the office manager for a taconite company. He married JoAnn Odegaard on June 6, 1964 at the Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN. In the early 1960’s, Ordean went to work for the Northern State Bank as CEO and remained there until his retirement after 40 years of service. Ordean was a member of many Civil Organizations where he served as president. He is survived by his wife - JoAnn of Gonvick, MN Daughter - Beth Birkeland of Maple Grove, MN Son - Mike (Catherina) Birkeland of Miami, FL 2 grandchildren - Bergen and Gianna Brother - Arlen Birkeland of Gonvick, MN Sisters - Beverly Samson of Thief River Falls, MN and Lolly Borchert of Minneapolis, MN
