   Thief River Falls - Eddie Robert Briggs, 78, of Thief River Falls, and a former longtime resident of Crookston,  died in a traffic accident in Crookston on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 13,  at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Crookston, with Rev. Steve Bohler officiating. Interment was held at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
    Eddie was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on March 20, 1933, the son of Roy C. and Edna (Ruby) Briggs. He moved with his family to Crookston, where he grew up and attended school. Eddie took an auto body repair course in Kansas City, Kan., and returned to Crookston where he hauled milk and was employed by area farmers.
    On June 24, 1959 he was united in marriage to Jane Gutheridge in Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Crookston and four sons were born to their union: Duane, Roy, Jeff, and Roger. Eddie drove truck for the Bridgeman Creamery at Thief River Falls and then for twenty years was employed by Art Kushner at Crookston Iron and Metal until his retirement.
    Jane passed away on March 22, 2000. Eddie moved to Thief River Falls in 2004, and on June 25, 2005 was united in marriage to Patricia Johnette Bradshaw at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston.
    Eddie and Patricia made their home in Thief River Falls. He loved animals and his favorite pastimes were fishing, working on cars, and doing puzzle books. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston. Eddie will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
    Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; four sons: Duane Briggs and his wife, Grace, of Portland, Ore., Roy Briggs and Jeff Briggs of Crookston, and Roger Briggs and his wife, Hilda, of East Grand Forks; a step-son, Joel Bradshaw and his wife, Christine, of  Fargo, N.D.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his first wife, Jane, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Edna; five brothers: David, Roy Jr., Gene, Ernie, and Kenny; two sisters, Mary and Kathy; and nieces and nephews.
