 Viking - Earl Erickson, 79,  of Viking, beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., with his family at his side.
  Earl Roosevelt Erickson was born on October 27, 1925, near Argyle, the son of William and Clarrisa Erickson. He attended school in Warren, until his family moved to Viking and he attended school in Newfolden, where he was active in football and baseball. After graduating, he worked in a factory in Seattle, Wash., until he was inducted into the US Army and he served in WWII.
 On December 29, 1951 at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, he married Joyce Hansen. They made their home in rural Viking where they farmed and raised registered Guernsey’s and turkeys.
 He was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Viking where he held numerous offices. Earl was also active as a club leader with the Viking Volcanoes 4-H, Pennington County DHIA, Warren American Legion Post No. 27, Thrivent Financial, Viking Garden Club and the Swedish Agazzi Society as a board member.
 Earl enjoyed baseball, Minnesota Vikings football, hunting and collecting elephant statues.
 Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Joyce of 53 years and two daughters, Vicky (Wilford) Hillebrand of Grand Forks, N.D., and Jayne (Rydell) Nieland of Sisseton, S.D.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brother, George (Emma) Erickson of Viking; sisters-in-law, Donna Erickson of Fargo, N.D., and Joan Hansen of Williston, N.D.; brother-in-law, Wayne Hansen of Brazil and many nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Egbert Malberg and brother, Paul.
 Funeral services were held on Friday, April 15 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. Interment was held at Viking Cemetery. Military services were provided by Warren American Legion Post 27.
