Moorhead - Laurie Jean Axtman, 53, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011.A memorial service was held Saturday, July 30 at Faith, Hope, Love Church in Moorhead. Interment was in Rugby Little Flower Cemetery. Laurie, the daughter of Adam and Margaret Axtman, was born in Rugby, N.D., on July 5, 1958. She grew up on the family farm near Silva, N.D. Laurie attended country school in Silva for two years, Little Flower School for six years, and graduated from Rugby High School in 1976. She graduated with a degree in recreational therapy from the?University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D. Laurie was an instructor at Northland Community College, Thief River Falls, from 1980 to 1990. Laurie went back to college for her master’s degree in gerontology at St. Cloud State and worked as a recreational therapist at a nursing home. She moved back to Fargo, N.D., to be closer to family after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and diabetes. Laurie was best known for her infectious laugh, her never-ending smile and for finding joy in everything she did. She is survived by four sisters, Bernadette (Gerald) Klein, Rugby, Joan (John) VanDyke, Arlington, Texas, and Mary Lynn Axtman and Paulette (Larry) Osborne, both of Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Leon (Jewel) Axtman, Maplewood; and all her beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
