 Grand Forks, ND - Susan Gail McIntyre, 70 of Grand Forks, North Dakota and a resident for the last five years of Thief River Falls, died on Monday July 4, 2011 at Valley Memorial Eldercare in Grand Forks, N.D., with her loving family at her side.A funeral Service celebrating the life of Susan Gail McIntyre will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday July 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church of Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation will be on Wednesday July 13 (today) from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Five months ago on January 15, 2011 Sue became very ill with pneumonia and bronchitis. This then lead to septic shock and the total body shut down. Sue battled courageously everyday since Jan. 15, 2011 to overcome all obstacles thrown her way: blood clots, septic shock, COPD, kidney issues and lastly gall bladder troubles. Sue was too weak to overcome/ take anymore. On Monday July 4, 2011 her heart gave out. Sue went very peacefully with her loving family by her side. Sue will be truly missed, but she is in a much better place, pain free and with her parents and sister. Susan “Sue” was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on January 28, 1941, one of two daughters born to Alvin and Ruth McIntyre. She was a 1958 graduate of Central High School in Grand Forks, N.D. Sue then attended The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D. Sue graduated from UND in 1964 earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. On Dec. 18, 1964 Sue had a daughter, the only child born to Sue from a brief marriage to James Hultman. In 1967, Sue joined the faculty at UND. She loved her job and anyone she met along the way. Sue was amazing at what she did. So good, that in 1981 she was promoted to Chairperson of the OT Department at UND. Sue started/ created The Wyoming Program and the shift to Master’s level curriculum. “The Wyoming program allows the OT department to assist in fulfilling strategic planning initiatives for the SMHS by providing highly trained medical professionals in the region and the nation through a fully- accredited mirror program. The success of the Wyoming program can be attributed to the innovation, vision, and determination of Sue McIntyre.” Sue is still listed on the website at UND OT Department as “Assistant Professor Emeritus.” Sue was very well liked and respected at UND. If you knew Sue, you knew she was with her daughter and two grandkids watching hockey. Sue loved hockey. She loved her grandkids and daughter. Sue watched any/ all hockey she could. Sue especially loved to watch her grandkids play. Her granddaughter Jade was a goalie for Thief River Falls girls hockey and her grandson Zane was a goalie for Thief River Falls boys hockey. Grandma Susie loved all the hockey trips and all of Jade and Zane’s hockey teammates. Grandma Susie was a regular fixture at all games and everyone that met her loved her and her hockey spirit. Grandma Susie was not your typical hockey grandma she was special: Very loud, boisterous, and her voice carried. You could always hear grandma... Sue had many hobbies and interests: she loved to knit, crochet and quilt. She made several beautiful quilts for family and friends. Sue loved to visit, sight see, and hang out. Sue made the most of every moment with her family and friends. Left to continue their journey through life are her daughter and her two grandchildren: Kelly Jo McIntyre- Gothberg; Granddaughter, Jade Kaitlyn Gothberg, and Grandson, Zane Alvin Gothberg, who all reside in Thief River Falls. Sue was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Ruth McIntyre and by her only sister Ruth Young. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. A00003B2011JY13  |
