Glenwood - Evelyn Johnson (Rambeck) Stellner, 86, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, March 30, in Glenwood after a long illness.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 4 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood.
Evelyn Johnson was born July 26, 1918 in Halma to Chris A. and Gjertine (Norheim) Johnson, Norwegian immigrants. She was baptized at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma and confirmed at Shelly Lutheran Church in Shelly. At age 16, she graduated from Climax High School in Climax. She attended nurses training at Eitel Hospital in Minneapolis and graduated in 1939.
On February 15, 1942 she married LaVerne John Rambeck. They lived in Thief River Falls until 1960 when the family moved to Glenwood. They had five children, Judy and husband Sheldon Neufeld of Newcastle Wash., Lynn John of Eden Prairie, Carol and husband Senator LeRoy Stumpf of Plummer, Joan of Minneapolis and James and wife Elizabeth of Savage.
In her early years, she was a registered nurse at Mercy and St. Luke’s Hospitals, which eventually became Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. In the 1950’s she taught practical nursing at what was then Thief River Falls AVTI. When living in Glenwood she lectured at the Alexandria AVTI LPN program.
During her career she was the director of Nursing Service at the Glenwood Community Hospital before becoming the Director of Health Care at the Glenwood Retirement Home until her retirement in 1981.
Evelyn married Albert Stellner of Cyrus on April 25, 1981. They enjoyed life on Lake Amelia at Villard. Al passed away on May 18, 2001.
In 1986 Evy become ill with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease. In 1998 she went to live at the Glenwood Retirement Home in Glenwood, until the time of her death.
Evelyn is survived by her five children; two stepchildren, Julie (Allan) Rutter of Cyrus and John (Marie) Stellner of Alexandria; sister, Mildred Peterson of Brooklyn Park and brother, Alden Johnson of Red Wing. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Evy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al and her brother Raymond Johnson.
