Sacramento, Calif. - Russell Alfred Walsberg, 82, formerly of Thief River Falls, died of pneumonia on February 21, 2005 in Sacramento, Calif.
Russell’s Masonic memorial is scheduled for 1 p.m. on April 1 at Live Oak Cemetery, Monrovia, Calif. A reception in Russell’s honor will be held immediately following his memorial at a location to be announced. All his friends, Masonic, Scottish Rite and Eastern Star family are cordially invited.
Russell Alfred Walsberg was born on May 3, 1922 in Grand Forks, N.D. Russell was the oldest of 14 children of Yvonne Gregorie Walsberg and Victor A. Walsberg.
Russell grew up on a farm in Thief River Falls. He lived for many years in the towns of Duarte and Monrovia, Calif., where he was a past master of Sojourner Masonic Lodge No. 608, a member of Scottish Rite, and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Russell was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers for over 50 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Russell was a gifted mechanic and could repair just about anything. He was hailed by family and friends for his wonderful backyard barbeques. Russell served in the United States Navy during World War II, being honorably discharged on December 10, 1945.
Russell is survived by his daughters, Doris Reva and her husband, Fred of Encinitas, Calif., Joan Quinn of Sacramento, Calif.; his stepdaughter, Stephanie Rogers of Monrovia, Calif.; and his stepsons, Jeffrey Shultz of Cincinatti, Ohio, Craig Schultz of Redmond, Ore., and Andy, David and Susie Reva of Encinitas, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight sisters and four brothers.
Other surviving family include: Duane (Beverly) Walsberg of Borup, Colleen (Willie) Lazarz of Fairbault, Yvonne (Lloyd) Johnson of Virtoua, Rene (Jo) Walsberg of Wichita, Kan., Carol (Harold) Jude of Dekalb, Ill., Judy Budgly of Federal Way, Wash., Ralph Walaberg of Two Harbors, Jeanette Walseth of Thief River Falls, Virginia (Ron) Anderson of Thief River Falls, JoAnn (Larry) Wold of Detroit Lakes, Dennis (Susan) Walsberg of Federal Way, Wash., and Mary Johnson of Spring, Tex.
He was preceded in death by wife, Donna, and his sister, Gertrude. A00003B2005MR23
