Newfolden - Russell Rood, 83, of Newfolden, died on Monday, March 7, 2005 at his home in Newfolden.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 12 at the Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden. Military honors were accorded by the American Legion.
Russell Willard Rood, the son of the late Hjalmer and Annie (Bjorlokken) Rood, was born on December 2, 1921, in Nelson Park Township of Marshall County, near Strandquist. He grew to manhood there, and attended the former Oakdale School near his home.
Russell was baptized and confirmed at the Hegland Lutheran Church near Strandquist and was a life-long member there. He was employed in construction and factory work at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and in June of 1944, was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving in the European - African Theater. Following his discharge in May of 1946, he worked with his brother, Howard, in his body shop in Strandquist and was employed by various area farmers over the years. He also raised beef cattle with his brother, Lawrence.
Several years ago, he sold the farm and moved to Newfolden where he had since resided. He was a member of the Newfolden American Legion Post.
He is survived by one brother: Dewey, and his wife, Verna, of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rood, also of Thief River Falls; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and his many friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Howard, and one sister, Gertrude Anderson.
