Thief River Falls - Harvey Hess, 78, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 14 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, with Rev. Paul Koch officiating. Interment was held at Palmville Cemetery in Wannaska.
Harvey Owen Hess was born March 26, 1926 in Graceville, the son of John L. and Lena (Hess) Gernandt. He was adopted as an infant, by his aunt and uncle, Alma and Earl Hess. Harvey lived in Wheaton, until he was six years old. The family moved to Wannaska, in 1932, where he attended Torfin School and later received his G.E.D. in Thief River Falls.
Harvey was united in marriage to Evangeline Lorenzen on August 12, 1947 in Roseau. He farmed most of his life and worked construction, as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He moved to Fourtown, in 1994 and lived on Jackpine Road, and in 1997 moved to Thief River Falls where he had since resided.
Harvey was a member of Operating Engineers No. 49 in St. Paul, MN, the Moose Lodge in Aurora, and the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls. Harvey served as a Palmville Township Supervisor and also served on the Wannaska Creamery Board of Directors.
Survivors include three sons, Richard (Mary) Hess of Aurora, Jerald (Peggy) Hess of Hallock, and Thomas Hess of Warroad; three daughters, Linda (Wayne) Simmons of Middle River, Connie Starren of Williams and Peggy (Dr. Lyle) Kenner of Thief River Falls; mother of his children, Evangeline Hess of Hallock; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Gernandt of Ore.; sister, Agnes Dedrikson of Joplin, Mo.; special friend, Martha Dunsmore of Thief River Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lillian Lynns; and four brothers, Jack, Frank, George and Louis.
