Warren - Mildred Torkelson, 85, of Warren, died on Monday, February 28, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren. Visitation will be held after 5 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday at the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home in Warren, and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at Hegland Cemetery, Nelson Park Township, Marshall County.
Mildred was born July 5, 1919 in rural Grygla, the daughter of Paul and Adelia (Hvile) Paulson. She spent her early years in rural Grygla where she attended country school through eighth grade.
Mildred graduated from high school in Alvarado in 1938. She married Alvin Samuelson of Warren on April 19, 1940. He died January 1, 1945. This union was blessed with one daughter, Mae.
On November 19, 1947, Mildred married Norval Torkelson at the North Star College in Warren. They made their home in Warren where they raised five children. Mildred worked at the Good Samaritan Center as a cook and nurse’s aide.
She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, a confirmation mentor, sang in the ladies sextet and participated in Women’s Circles. Mildred was an avid reader with a passion for learning and literature. She had a keen sense of adventure and enjoyed traveling.
Mildred was admired and dearly loved by her family and friends. She is survived by five children, Mae (John) Rowe of Arden Hills, Charles (Becky) Torkelson of San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn (Brad Beneke) Torkelson of Shakopee, John (Linda Merritt) Torkelson of Dallas and Elizabeth (Larry) Strenge of Sartell; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Alvin and Norval, three brothers, Kernel, Roy and John and four sisters, Leona, Ruth, Dorothy and Deloris.
