Clyde L. Golby, 84 Print E-mail

  Karlstad - Clyde L. Golby, 84, died at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. on Tuesday morning, February 22, 2005.
  Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 26 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad, with Rev. Mitch Tolpingrud officiating. Casket bearers included all of Clyde’s grandchildren. Interment was held at Karlstad Cemetery  in Karlstad. Military honors were provided by the Karlstad American Legion Post 445.
  Clyde LeRoy Golby, the son of the late William and Cora (Olen) Golby, was born on March 2, 1920, in Painted Woods, N.D. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to the Williams-Roosevelt area, and at age 9, to the Karlstad area, where he grew to manhood. 
 Clyde attended the former Beaton School near his home, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 15, he began working for area farmers.  Clyde served with the U.S. Army from January of 1943 until November of 1945, and following discharge, returned to the Karlstad area. On October 21, 1947, Clyde was united in marriage to Ruth Kleven in Lancaster. The couple had since made their home on their present farm in Deerwood Township, Kittson County, near Karlstad. 
 Clyde was employed by the Karlstad Auto Parts for 30 years, and later, worked for various area farmers. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Karlstad and served on the church council. He also was a member of the Karlstad American Legion Post 445. For the past three years, he  resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center. 
 He is survived by his wife, Ruth;  one son, Roger (Linda), of Annandale;  three daughters,  Charlotte (Paul) Brodin of Grand Forks; Ann (Wayne) Voth of Karlstad; and Helen Beito of Thief River Falls; step-son, Ronald (Diane) Kleven of Grafton, N.D.;  12 grandchildren;  six great-grandchildren;  and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
 Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George, Henry, Benny, and Johnny; and five sisters, Sophia, Lillian, Lottie, Ada, and Zella; and several nieces and nephews. A00003B2005MR02
