Karlstad - Nels Einar Englund, 99, died on Monday, February 14, 2005, at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 18 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad, with Rev. Mitch Tolpingrud officiating. Casket bearers included all of Einar’s grandchildren. Interment was held at the Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Nels Einar Englund, the son of the late Nels Andrew and Selma Margaret (Wicklund) Englund, was born on December 16, 1905, in Arveson Township of Kittson County, near Karlstad, on the Englund homestead. He attended school and grew to manhood in Arveson Township, and was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad. On July 15, 1934, Einar was united in marriage to Lillian Bengtson at the Bethel Lutheran Church Parsonage, and from that point forward, they made their home in Karlstad.
Einar was employed as a rural mail carrier on the “Star” route for 64 years, retiring in 1991. He also worked for Leonard Thompson Construction and the former Hodne Hardware Store in Karlstad, as well as driving bus for the Karlstad School District for several years.
He was a charter and life-long member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and also as custodian. He enjoyed his very large, productive garden over the years. Lillian passed away January 19, 2000.
Since July of 1999, Einar has resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.
He is survived by three sons: James; Emmett (Sandra), of Sacramento, Calif.; and Paul, of St. Paul; one daughter, Elaine Anderson of Forrest Lake; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold (Marian) of Karlstad; in addition to many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Einar was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sons, Loyal and LeRoy; one grandson; brothers, Elmer and Vincent; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Edna, and Clara. A00003B2005FB23
