Eureka, Calif - Sigurd Bjornaraa, 86, of Eureka, Calif., formerly of Trail, died on Wednesday, February 16 in Eureka.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Sigurd was born January 22, 1919, the son of Bjorgalv and Ingilborg (Brokke) Bjornaraa on the family farm in Hickory Township, Pennington County, where he attended school and grew up. He was a member of the Nazareth Church in rural Trail, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Sigurd served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees Construction Battalian in Japan during the Korean War, receiving his honorable discharge in 1951.
He was united in marriage to Denver Arnold in 1949 in Vancouver, Wash. They made their home in Eureka, Calif. with their daughters, Thora and Selma.
Sigurd was a member of the Pile Drivers Union, working in the logging industry.
Survivors include daughters, Selma MacFarland of Victoria, Australia and Thora Abarca of Hilo, Hawaii; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Solvieg Cost of Victorville, Calif.; eight nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Baby Thora, Thora, Anna, Borghild and Thelma; and brothers, Dreng, Olof, Einar and Thorwald. A00003B2005FB23
