Erskine - David DeFrang, 44, of Erskine, died on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at his home.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 28, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh, with Rev. Gerald White officiating. Casket bearers included Mike Bjerken, Kilmer Christopherson, Merlin Stone, Mark Langemo, Tony Haugen and Steve Chalich. Honorary casket bearers wereRick Hanson, Brian Holtan, Conrad Rodvik, Kurt Hedman and Bill Lundquist. Interment was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh.
David Allen DeFrang was born on May 16, 1960 in St. Louis, Mo., to parents Douglas and Carole (Nelson) DeFrang. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh.
He graduated from McIntosh-Winger High School in 1978. During his high school years he participated in basketball, band, chorus and many other activities. He worked numerous jobs before becoming a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
In recent years, David enjoyed coaching junior varsity baseball, seventh grade boys basketball, and hosting a fall clay pigeon tournament.
David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was president of the Erskine Athletic Park and worked to raise funds to improve the ball field in Erskine.
He is survived by his three children, Matthew, 25, and Nicholas, 21, both of Thief River Falls and Melissa, 18, of Erskine; his mother, Carole DeFrang; one brother, Dean (Suzanne) DeFrang of Fosston; three sisters, Tami (Rick) Hansen of Thief River Falls, Sandra DeFrang of Erskine, and Wendy DeFrang of Thief River Falls; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas DeFrang.
