Detroit Lakes - Paul J. Ellingson, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died on January 24, 2005 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Dan Babine officiating. Casket bearers included Charles Korinta, Ervin Nordlund, Paul Leland, David Sall, Philip Ellingson and Douglas Ellingson. Interment was held at Upsala Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes.
Paul J. Ellingson was born on October 2, 1921 in Lake Park, to Elmer and Alma Jellum Ellingson. He grew up and attended school there. He then farmed on the family farm for years.
On October 2, 1947, he married Vivian Sall in Detroit Lakes. They lived in Lake Park and he worked as a butcher for the Jordahl Grocery Store. In 1951, they moved to Thief River Falls, where he worked for the Red Owl Store. He later worked as the meat manager for Hartz Super Market in Thief River Falls. He retired in 1986, and shortly after they moved to Detroit Lakes.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, a former member of the Upsala Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Eagles in Thief River Falls. He was also a member of the Oddfellows as well as a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Nutrition Center in Detroit Lakes. He enjoyed fishing and baking lefse.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; two sisters, Ruth Jones of Detroit Lakes and Mae Johnson of Hitterdal; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Elmer Ellingson. A00003B2005FB02
