Thief River Falls - Mildred Olufson, 86, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Richard Raschke, Tim Severud, and Jane Miller officiating. Casket bearers include Joel Haakonson, Archie Cameron, Shaun Sandford and Tom Simpson. Interment will be held at Landstad Cemetery in Gatzke.
Mildred Caroline Anderson was born October 27, 1918 near Pencer in Michinock Township, Roseau County, the daughter of Belter A. and Nanny L. (Danielson) Anderson.
She attended school through 8th grade in Pencer. Her first job was as a house keeper for R.V. Anderson’s in Pencer and Knute Lee in Wannaska. The family then moved to Greenbush. Mildred candled eggs in Greenbush and Thief River Falls. She also worked in the twin cities Minnesota area and San Francisco, Calif.
In her early 20’s, Mildred began attending gospel meetings and professed to serve God shortly thereafter.
When Mildred was 34 years old, she was married to Oscar Henry Olufson on November 6, 1952 in Roseau. Oscar was a lifelong resident of Gatzke who died September 7, 1960. After marriage, Mildred and Oscar farmed near Gatzke. Mildred and her two sons remained on the farm after Oscar’s death.
After Oscar’s death, Mildred worked at Land O’ Lakes Turkey Plant and Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls and did house work in Roseau and Thief River Falls.
Mildred enjoyed reading and gardening. On February 18, 2000, Mildred entered Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls, where she received excellent care and resided until her death.
She is survived by two sons, Charles (Jane) Olufson of Rochester, and Myron Olufson of Gatzke; special friend, JulieLynn Eckel of Duluth; sisters, Manda Knutson of Spokane, Wash.,; and Gladyce Tingley of Greenacres, Wash., and several nieces.
Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oscar; her parents; her brother, Sam; several aunts and uncles and one niece.
