Myrtle Drury, 82 Print E-mail

  Thief River Falls - Myrtle Drury, 82, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 24, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Casket bearers included John Marks, Christopher Marks, Richard Holen, Gordon Peterson, Shane Chapman and Floyd Hageman Jr.  Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
 Myrtle Peterson was born on August 13, 1922 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Arlie and Olga (Efteland) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith and attended school in Lancaster, graduating from Lancaster High School. Following High School, Myrtle attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for one year for nursing.
 Myrtle was united in marriage to John Marks on August 8, 1942 in Crookston. The couple moved to California for a few years. In 1955 they returned to Grand Forks and in 1956 Myrtle and John bought the Luxury CafĂ© in Thief River Falls, which they owned and operated until John died in 1965. Myrtle then went to the Technical School in Thief River Falls and earned her LPN License. She worked for Dr. Herber for a few years, also worked at CNC and at Oakland Park Nursing Home for over 20 years.  For the last few years of her career she was In-Service Director at Oakland Park, training Nurses Aides. She retired in 1988.
 She married John Drury on May 10, 1985. They enjoyed crafts, going out to eat together and spoiling the grandchildren. John died on April 9, 1998.
 Myrtle loved to draw, sew, paint, crochet and make cards and quilts.  She was very artistic. Myrtle enjoyed taking care of everybody and was a wonderful caregiver.
 Myrtle is survived by three children, Jacqueline (DeVere) Chapman of Newfolden, Jerry (LouAnn) Marks of Glenwood,  and Jewel (Allen) Boit of Mahnomen; eight grandchildren;  one great-grandchild; and one brother, Gordon (Margaret) Peterson of Thief River Falls.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jerome Peterson.
