  Goodridge - Leola Cullen, 92, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
  Mass of Christian Burial was held on  Monday, January 17 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Goodridge,  with Father John Kleinwachter presiding. Casket bearers included Kyle Syverson, Bill Cullen, Mike Cullen, Joe Kuznia, John Cullen, Anthony Cullen and Ron Stucy. Honorary casket bearers included all of Leola’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Interment was held at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Espelie Township in Marshall County. 
 Leola Margaret Portwine was born December 13, 1912 in Guttenberg, Iowa, to James and Della (Lewis) Portwine. She comes from a family of seven.  Leola attended school through the eighth grade. 
 Leola was visiting with her sister in Goodridge, when she met her future husband, Thomas Cullen.  They were married February 8, 1934 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Goodridge. They farmed in the Goodridge area raising grain, turkeys, cows, and sheep. Leola and Thomas raised eight children.  Leola worked at Valley Home, the Mint Café and Fountain Café in Thief  River Falls.
 Leola enjoyed crocheting, reading and her garden work and yard work. She also enjoyed camping and loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially when they were babies. She also enjoyed quilting, bird watching, and stamp collecting. She was active with the Goodridge Historical Society. One of the highlights of her life was when she saw the Pope in Iowa. 
 She served as president of the Senior Citizens in Goodridge.  Leola and her husband enjoyed going to auction sales as a past time. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Church, Goodridge.  Leola was a strong leader and had a deep faith in God. She lived at Valley Home, in Thief River Falls, for awhile before moving to the Good Samaritan Center, Warren in 1992. 
 She is survived by children, Lauretta (Edward) Stucy of Goodridge, John H. (Jan) Cullen of Goodridge, Agnes (Raymond) Kuznia of Stephen, Tommy (Marilyn) Cullen of Goodridge,  Douglas (Virginia) Cullen of Goodridge, Joe Cullen of North Pole, Alaska, and Margaret (Warren) Syverson of Thief River Falls; 36 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Golda Moser of Strawberry Point, Iowa.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1989; one son Robert; her parents; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Mildred Stone; and brothers, Harvey, John, Raymond and Donald. A00003B2005JA19
