Park Rapids - Mark Theodore Hegtvedt, 54, of Park Rapids, died at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, September 13, 2004, following a battle against cancer.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 17, at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, with Rev. David LeMaster officiating. Honorary casket bearers include: Patrick Anderson, Bruce Pritchard, Edwin Driscoll, Tim Pretzer, Richard Holmes and Lee Rupprecht. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Mark was born on April 6, 1950, to Theodore and Margaret (O’Hara) Hegtvedt in Thief River Falls. It was there that he attended public schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1969.
Mark was married to Susan Larson in 1969, and they were blessed with two sons, Chad and Corey. Mark’s life was forever saddend by the death of his son, Chad, at age 6.
Mark had a profound interest and love of music. As a young man he embarked on a career as a musician that spanned over 30 years and as a talented bass guitarist, that landed numerous jobs performing with rock and country western bands throughout the region.
On May 29, 1982, Mark was united in marriage to Christine Broeker in Thief River Falls. This union was blessed with two children, Elizabeth and Kevin.
After living in Minneapolis for a time, the young couple moved to a farm northeast of Park Rapids in 1984. Mark enjoyed the rigors of farm life. He enjoyed working outdoors, and dedicated himself to raising a fine herd of beef cattle. He enjoyed working in the fields, raising the crops that he needed to feed his livestock. Most recently, Mark had been licensed as a real estate agent selling in the Park Rapids real estate market. He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially looked forward to time spent with his family and friends camping or hunting. He also took pride in caring for his lawn and garden. Above all, Mark devoted his life to his wife and children who he loved with all his heart.
Mark is survived by his wife, Chris of Park Rapids; his daughter Libby of St. Paul; two sons, Corey Mattson of Woodruff, Wis., and Kevin Hegtvedt of Park Rapids; his father Theodore Hegtvedt of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Joan (L.L.) Jones of Florida, and Sharon (Lyle) Johnson of Thief River Falls; one brother, Roger (Carol) Amundson of Thief River Falls; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother in 1993, and his son, Chad, in 1977. A00003B2004SP22
