Warren - Bess Swanson, 87, died on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Warren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 6, at the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home in Warren. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Warren.
Bess Swanson was born on August 4, 1917 in Thief River Falls, to the Nels and Mary (Mikulecky) Syverson. She grew up and attended school in Thief River Falls. On September 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Erling “Erla” Swanson in Thief River Falls. They made their home in Warren. During WWII, she and her sister, Bernice, ran the filing station in Warren while Erling was in the US Army. In her later years, she worked at the Historical Building under the Green Thumb Program and also worked and volunteered at the Warren Senior Meal Center.
In the fall of 2001, she went into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home after her Alzheimer’s made it too difficult for her to live alone.
Left to mourn her passing are three children, Robert (Sandra) Swanson of Gatzke, Randy (Bette) Swanson of Warren and Lorna (Scott) Fillipi of Warren, three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Charles “Bud” Syverson of Warren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erling; son, Dale; one grandson; five sisters, Rose Ellingson, May Gran, Amy Hansen, Pearl Syverson, Bernice Syverson and one brother, Tenny. A00003B2005JA12
