Biwabik - Floyd M. Sunsdahl, 70, of Biwabix, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Golden Crest Health Care Center in Hibbing with his family by his side.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 3, at Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia, with Rev. Rebecca Wentworth officiating.
He was born on September 16, 1934, on the family farm in Star Township, Pennington County, the son of Henry and Gertie (Bjornara) Sunsdahl. He grew up on the farm, east of Goodridge, and attended Goodridge High School.
In 1960, Floyd moved to Hibbing. He was united in marriage to Vivian Stratton on July 26, 1969 in Grygla. They moved to Biwabik, where they had since resided for the past 31 years. He worked for the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway Company as a track laborer, retiring in 1993, as a foreman. Floyd liked to meet the guys for coffee every morning at Megan’s restaurant in Aurora, where they reminisced and discussed the latest news. He enjoyed playing solitaire, doing crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and cuddling with his cats. His favorite treat was root beer barrels. Floyd was a quiet man and was considered by his family to be the greatest husband, dad and grandfather. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Railway.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Vivian; one son, David (Jamie) of Roseau; one daughter, LuAnn Sunsdahl of Embarrass; three grandchildren; brothers, Alvin (Sharyl) of Warroad and Obert (Sandra) of Thief River Falls; sisters, Emma Kapla of Hibbing and Janice (Orrin) Haugen of Hibbing; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved pets and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Hubert, Virgil, Roy and George.
