  Warren - Norval Torkelson, 91, of Warren,  died on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 3 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren. Casket bearers included Duane Potucek, Sam Potucek, Jim Edgar, Glenn Johnson, Peter Larson, Harry Howard and Tim Howard. Interment will be held at Hegland Lutheran Cemetery in rural Strandquist, in the spring.
  Andrew Norval Torkelson was born on September 19, 1913 in rural Strandquist, the son of Carl and Ida (Rood) Torkelson. He attended country school and graduated from Karlstad High School. After he graduated from high school, Norval farmed in the summer and attended Lutheran Bible Institute in the winter.
 In 1946, Norval moved to Warren and taught at the North Star Bible College. On Nov. 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mildred Paulson at the North Star Bible College. They made their home in Warren and in the early 50’s Norval started Torkelson Construction Company. He retired from carpentry in 1985. During retirement, Norval continued to farm, raise bees, do carpentry and travel with Mildred.
 Norval was an active member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he served in numerous leadership positions. He was a lay preacher and was involved in various missions including the Latin American Lutheran Mission in Laredo, Texas.
 Norval was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mildred and five children, Mae (John) Rowe of Arden Hills, Charles (Becky) Torkelson of San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn (Brad Beneke) Torkelson of Shakopee, John (Linda Merritt) Torkelson of Dallas, Texas, and Elizabeth (Larry) Strenge of Sartell; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Thelma Thompson of Karlstad, Amy (Joel) Fedje of Hoople, N.D., Valborg Torkelson of Chula Vista, Calif., Marie (Ken) Braaten of Fargo, N.D.,  and Louise Becker of Warren; brother, Oliver Torkelson of Karlstad; and many nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Alfred and sister, Clarice Erickson.
