Slidell, La. - Melvin Sundrud, 92, of Slidell, Louisiana, and formerly of Fosston, died on Saturday, December 25, at his residence in Slidell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 31 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston, with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be held at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements.
Melvin Sundrud was born on March 20, 1912 in Grand Forks, N.D., to parents Louis and Margaret (Berg) Sundrud. He was baptized in the Christian faith and confirmed at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural Trail. He attended rural school in Hill River Township and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to Violet Trogstad on November 14, 1942. After their marriage they farmed in Hill River Township. He was later a custodian at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston where he was active as a deacon and also taught Sunday school for many years. Violet passed away in July of 1980.
Melvin was currently residing in Slidell, Louisiana with his son, Robert. Melvin passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2004 at his home in Slidell at the age of 92 years.
Survivors include his son, Robert (Juliet) of Slidell, LA; two grandchildren; one brother, Omar Sundrud of Minneapolis; three sisters, Clara Radniecki of Thief River Falls, Gladys Schoening of Nampa, Idaho, and Peggy Althoff of Kent, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Rebecca Louise Sundrud; his parents; and brothers, Arthur and George.
