Cohasset - Craig Alan Backer, 48, of Cohasset, died on Monday, December 20, 2004 at his home.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, December 23, at Zion Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, with Rev. Michael Carlson officiating.
Craig was born August 16, 1956, to Jackie and Ellen (Brudvik) Backer in Detroit Lakes. He grew up in Bagley and graduated from Bagley High School in 1974. Craig attended Bemidji State University and graduated with a B.S. degree in criminal justice. In 1977, he moved to Big Falls and began a career of over 27 years as a conservation officer.
On August 4, 1978, Craig was married to Julie Comstock in Edina. They soon moved from Big Falls to Thief River Falls, where he was promoted to area supervisor, with the rank of lieutenant. In 1988, Craig moved to Cohasset and was promoted to northeast regional supervisor, with the rank of captain.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, Jackie and an infant daughter, Jennifer Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; two daughters: Jessica “Jekka-Boom” (Nathan) Heinrich and Sara “Sugar Bear” Backer, both of Minneapolis; his mother, Ellen Backer of Bemidji; two brothers, Curtis (Malotte) Backer of Bagley and Keith (Diane) Backer of Tenstrike; mother-in-law, Bette Comstock of Edina; four sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
