Woodbridge, Va. - Ervin Arthur Sorter, 75, formerly of Middle River, died at his home in Woodbridge, Va., on Sunday morning, November 14, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 19. Interment was at Pohick Cemetery.
He was born on November 5, 1929 in Middle River, the first son of Arthur W. Sorter and Maude P. Curtiss Sorter.
He grew up and attended school in Middle River. At age 16 he went to work for a farmer in North Dakota and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent over 20 years in the service, working with heavy equipment, working in the post office and traveling to many different countries. During his enlisted years he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retirement from the service, he worked in the post office in Woodbrigde, VA and later ran a 24 hour wrecker service and auto repair shop. He was also a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
He was united in marriage to Eva G. Borg in 1951. Eva passed away on July 6th, 1978.
He is survived by one son, Richard D. Sorter and Laurel of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, Luvern Sorter and Judy of Thief River Falls and Willard Sorter of Middle River; one sister, Martha (Carl) Holsapple of Motley; one uncle, John Sorter; and three aunts, Mable Sorter, Junis Tanner and Edna Curtiss, all of Thief River Falls; one sister-in-law, Mable L. Sorter of Butler, Mo.; two grandchildren; one great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; one son, Michael Sorter; one daughter, Kathy Sorter; his father and mother; one brother, Norman Sorter and many aunts and uncles. A00003B2004DC15
