  Alexandria - Funeral services for Robert (Bob) E. Hayes, 77, formerly of Thief River Falls, were held on Monday, December 6 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Alexandria, with Pastor John LeVahn officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery. Cakset bearers included Don Schoonhoven, Milt Digre, Karl Bloomquist, Chuck Erickson, Jerry Bauer, Dick Lund, Ron Eldred and John Thorstad. Honorary casket bearers inclduded Bob’s afternoon coffee friends.
 Robert Hayes was born on February 21, 1927, in Thief River Falls, the son of Richard F. and Lena Hayes. He grew up in Pennington County on the family farm and graduated from Thief River Falls Lincoln High School
 In 1945, Bob was drafted by the U.S. Army for overseas service in Japan and received discharge after only a year with cessation of World War II.
 In June of 1951, Bob graduated with a bachelor of science degree from the engineering college at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.; he soon began working for 3M
 Bob married Iva Thorstad of Thief River Falls on June 2, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. To this union they were blessed with four children. The family moved to Cumberland, Wis., where they lived for 15 years. Bob worked as an industrial engineer and was a supervisor in an abrasives plant for 3M. In 1966 they moved to Alexandria, where he helped start the 3M plant and worked in the human resources department. In 1985, Bob retired after 34 years with 3M, but was still very active in the community as he had been in the past. Bob was  a member of the Kiwanis for 46 years, was on the ALP board for 23 years, spent one term on the District 206 School Board, and was very active in his church.
 Bob enjoyed working with lumber designing and building things, but most of all he loved being with family and friends.
 Bob died on December 2, 2004 at his home in Alexandria. He is survived by his wife Iva; four children, Dick (Judy) Hayes of Lakeville, Barbara (David) Henderson of Mound, Janet (Andy) Schuch of Rodgers, Alaska, and Tom (Kris) Hayes of Alexandria; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
 Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lena Hayes.   A00003B2004DC15
