Viking - Russell Floberg, 83, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 29, at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, with Rev. Luther Peterson officiating. Casket bearers included Kent Broten, Adam Riesen, Robert Broten, Chris Vixie, Bernard Blawat and Jordan Anderson. Honorary Casket bearers included Ervin Broten, Harry Hess, LeRoy Gustafson, Curtis Halvorson, Jack Scheie, Ronnie Fulton, Johnny Hess, Brad Blawat, Derwin Broten, David Broten, and Steve Broten. Interment was held at Viking Cemetery.
Russell Floberg was born on October 24, 1921 in Foldahl Township, Marshall County, the son of Oscar and Hilda (Hanson) Floberg. He was baptized and confirmed at Mission Covenant Church in Viking. He grew up and attended Woodland Country School and graduated from Warren High School in 1939. Following graduation, Russell farmed the family farm with his brother Lester, the third generation of Flobergs to farm there. It was a diverse farm operation consisting primarily of small grains and dairy.
On November 27, 1957, Russell was united in marriage to Clarice Amelia Halvorson at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. The couple made their home on the farm, where they continued to reside. In 1998, the Floberg Farm celebrated its Centennial.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Viking, where he served many years as head usher and also served on the church council. He served as a board member and assessor of Foldahl Township and served on the Woodland School Board. Russell enjoyed family, the outdoors, farming, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was lovingly known as the “Funny Grandpa.” He liked visiting with friends and neighbors and enjoyed animals, especially his dog, Casey. He appreciated traveling to Wisconsin to visit family, and after retirement enjoyed trips to the East and West Coasts.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice of Viking; son Duane “Dewey” (Rosemary) Floberg of Ladysmith, Wis.; daughters, Diane (Tim) Waterworth of Viking and Dorene (Randy) Myers of Oshkosh, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; special cousin, Bonita Fulton of Thief River Falls; niece, Shirley Ackerman and nephew, Richard Floberg, both of California.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; his parents; and brothers, Donald, Clarence and Lester. A00003B2004DC01
