Burnsville - Ruth Dordal Borchert, 80, died on Friday, November 19, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park, with family present.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 3 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville.
Ruth was born in Ada on January 12, 1924, to Rev. Jacob and Mabel Dordal.
She was particularly close to her niece Marjorie (Barry) Galland Demsky whose care and kindness helped relieve some of the hardships associated with aging.
The family lived in Thief River Falls from 1949 to 1965, were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls from 1949 to 1965. Julius and Ruth moved to Los Angeles and Denver in later years. While living in Garden Grove, Calif., Ruth was church administrator at St. Olaf Lutheran Church (ELCA) under Pastor Erling Wold and his wife Marge, Pastor Jerry Crawford and also Pastor Murray Fincck.
This was a particularly fulfilling time in Ruth’s life, as she had many challenges in that position and thoroughly loved her job and the people of St. Olaf. Ruth and Julius retired to Arvada, Colo., in 1990, where Julius died in 1992. She later moved to Bismarck, N.D., and Burnsville, to be near her children.
Survivors include children, Bonnie Borchert of Pasadena, Calif., Leon Borchert (Lolly) of Apple Valley, Julie Borchert (Gary Solomonson) of Minneapolis, Greg (Linda) Borchert of Grapevine, Texas, and Jeani (Tony) Borchert Knopic of Bismarck, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Roland Dordal of Charleston, S.C.; and many nieces, nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julius Borchert; brothers, Matthew, Jerome and Alvin; and sisters, Eldred, Naomi and May. A00003B2004DC01
