Hildegarde Pernille Green was born April 8, 1923, in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Carl Martin Green and Marion Violet (Fanning) Green. She was both baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Hildegarde attended Knox Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941.
After graduation, Hildegarde worked in the position of bookkeeper for Griggs Cooper in St. Paul, Nash Finch in Thief River Falls, and ended her career in Thief River Falls with the J and B Drug Store.
Hildegarde’s wedding took place at Zion Lutheran Church, where she was joined in marriage with Bennie Hamre on July 6, 1952.  While they had no children, they became a very dear aunt and uncle, not only to their many nieces and nephews, but to neighborhood children as well. Dee, as the children called her, loved to recall the many humorous incidences they had provided. Saturday morning pancakes became a tradition for them. The family often gathered at their home for holidays.
Hildegarde had a deep and abiding faith and was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she found many ways to contribute. She loved and enjoyed her time with family and her many dear friends. She did beautiful handwork, was a master cake decorator, enjoyed raising lovely flowers and plants and in her younger years was known as an excellent bowler. Many will remember how beautifully she whistled.
