Plummer - Sylvester Hesse, 86, entered into rest on Thursday, October 28, at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 1 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer, with Rev. Arthur Ohlwine officiating. Casket bearers included Charles Simpson, Wayne Malwitz, Kevin Malwitz, Dean Hesse, Daniel Hesse and Donald Hesse, Jr. Interment was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Sylvester George Hesse was born to George and Alma (Lothert) Hesse on November 21, 1917, in Norfolk Township, Renville County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In 1920, the family moved to River Township, Red Lake County, where Sylvester grew up and farmed with his Dad and brother, Ivan. He retired in the early 1980s and moved to Plummer where he resided until his death.
Sylvester was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and horses. He helped his nephews when they needed a helping hand during harvest time and especially loved having his little nieces and nephews visit him.
Survivors include five sisters, Helen Simpson, Harriet Norman and Doris Malwitz, all of Plummer, Eva (Erling) Lauritz, Seattle, Wash. and Marian Pearson, Kennewick, Wash.; three brothers, Floyd (Fern) Hesse and Ivan Hesse, all of Red Lake Falls and Melvin (Peggy) Hesse of Plummer; sister-in-law, Loretta Hesse of Plummer; god child, Diane Grinde of Elk River; 29 nieces and nephews; special friend, Ariel Larson of Bagley; fishing buddy, Clair Larson of Thief River Falls and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle Ahrens and Sarah Hanson; brother, Donald Hesse, Sr.; also five nieces and one nephew; brothers-in-law, Bill Simpson, James Norman, Kenneth Malwitz, Jack Pearson, Frank Ahrens and Nels Hanson.
