Garrison - Danny W. Johnsrud, 58, of Garrison, formerly of Aitkin and the Kimberly area, died on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby following a brief illness.
A time of gathering was held on Saturday, October 30, at the Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. Interment was held at the Saron Cemtery in Dam Lake.
Danny was born on April 5, 1946 in Grand Rapids, the son of Nels and Elizabeth (DeCrane) Johnsrud. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at St John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin. He grew up and attended school in Kimberly and then in Aitkin.
He lived a short time in Farmington and then returned to the Aitkin area where he worked for the Aitkin Turkey plant for several years. Danny had worked with the DNR fighting fires. He also had served with the National Guard. He had worked in the Garrison area for the past 25 years as a handy man at the golf course, the resorts and for area residents. Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and auto mechanics.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Brenda) Johnsrud of Northfield and Kasey (Kelsey) Johnsrud of Brainerd. A daughter Teash Scheeler of Brainerd; sister, Joyce Olson of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren; nieces, Erleen (Gordon) Linke of Shorview, Andrea (Dan) Dowers, Adeline Olson of Thief River Falls; and newphews, Craig Johnsrud of Bismarck, N.D. and Mark (Patty) Olson of Thief River Falls; great-nieces and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Susann; brother, Earl; sister-in-law, Ida and brother-in-law Geroge Olson.
