Karlstad - Pauline Cwikla died on Tuesday, October 265, 2004 at Karlstad Community Nursing Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Middle River with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Pauline Stella Cwikla was born on June 23, 1917 in LaSalle, Ill. to Alex and Alice (Ostrowski) Janoski. She was baptized and attended school for a short time in LaSalle before moving with her family to Moline, Ill. and then settling in the Middle River area. She grew to womanhood in the Middle River area and was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Jane, near Middle River. She was united in marriage to Stanley Cwikla on October 24, 1934 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Jane and the two farmed and made their home in the Thief Lake Community. They retired from farming in 1972 and Pauline continued to work numerous jobs outside the home including the local hardware store and Polaris Industries for a number of years before moving into Middle River. Stanley passed away on July 17, 1986 and Pauline continued to make her home in Middle River until entering Valley Home in Thief River Falls in 1997. She moved into the Karlstad Community Nursing Center in 1998 where she passed away on October 26, 2004 at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Pauline’s church and her family were her life and she very much enjoyed her flowers, gardening, sewing, baking, fishing, and cooking. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Ladies Guild. She is survived by five sons: Stanley (Charlene) Cwikla of Chandler, Ariz., Jerome (Mary Ann) of Middle River, David (Myrna) Cwikla of Karlstad, Phillip (Michelle) Cwikla of San Francisco, Calif., Richard (Susan) Cwikla of West Fargo, N.D..; two daughters: Anna Rose (Raymond) Morrissey of Gatzke and Judith (John) Godar of Walnut Creek, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Mooney of Anderson, Calif., Ann Harden of Naples, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Janoski of Seal Beach, Calif.;along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
