Strathcona - Victor Westlund, 95, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 in Strathcona.
Victor Eugene Westlund, the son of Lewis and Mollie (Anderson) Westlund, was born October 25, 1908 in Deer Township, Roseau County, Minnesota. He moved to Huntley Township, Marshall County, with his parents when he was eight years old.
He married Florence Flaten on December 25, 1935 in Poplar Grove Church in rural Strathcona. They farmed in Huntley Township for many years until moving into the village of Strathcona in 1963. They operated the café in Strathcona for 11 years. They closed the café in 1974 and continued to live there.
Florence Westlund died on July 31, 1993.
Victor was very active in his community and was a member of several boards and committees over the years. He also was a past Mayor of Strathcona. Victor was a farmer, mechanic, electrician, hunter, trapper, plumber and well driller.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne (Dorothy) of Grand Forks, N.D., Lewis “Ted” (Connie) of Strathcona and Armand (Donna) of Strathcona; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Harlan; one brother; five sisters; two step-brothers; and one step-sister.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 22, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Pastor Curtis Matz officiated. Casket bearers included David, Brian, Kevin and Nathan Westlund, Adam Paulson, Scott Walker, Nathan Sapp, Casey Johnson, Peter Carlson and Brady Herring. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona.
