San Antonio, Texas - Maj. Gen. Chester A. Dahlen, 95, of San Antonio, Texas and formerly of Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006.
A private funeral service will be held by the family after the interment at West Point.
Chet received a congressional appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, graduating in 1933. For 36 years he served on active duty with a military career that began as a student, an instructor and saw World War II duty in the Pacific, until wounded in 1945.
He met his wife of 70 years at his first post duty in Ft. Snelling and married Ursula “Tommy” Erickson on December 23, 1935.
Upon retirement in October 1969, Chet and Tommy made their home in San Antonio, Texas. They both enjoyed playing golf and were world travelers, especially on freighters.
He is survived by his wife at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio; a daughter, Sydney Dahlen Elstran of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry S. and Malinda Dahlen and all of his siblings, Elinor, Stanton, Lydia, Anne, Erling, Rosine and Elizabeth; and a daughter, Karen.
