Goodridge - Jeanette Hoffman, 85, died on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 10, at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Casket bearers included Kenny Nelson, David Schlofer, Paul Odette, Robert Paulson, Ronnie Haugen and Wally Anderson. Honorary casket bearers included all of Jeanette’s relatives and friends. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Jeanette Elizabeth Marquette was born November 15, 1920 in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Remmenga) Marquette. She was baptized in 1923, in Sterling, Neb., and confirmed in Glyndon, in 1934. She grew up in the Fargo-Moorhead area, then St. Hilaire, Thief River Falls and then Goodridge. Jeanette attended high school in Thief River Falls.
On December 3, 1939, Jeanette was united in marriage to John Jacob Hoffman in a parsonage in Thief River Falls. Jeanette worked in the bees, with her dad and brothers for two years prior to and following their marriage. She worked several places in farm related work and went to Beaver Dam, Wis., and worked in a canning factory for one summer. She worked out for several years in the Lake Bronson area for farmers, where she cooked and John worked as a farm laborer.
The next winter they lived and worked on a farm in Warren and then Jeanette and John moved and worked in the Crookston area for a couple of years. The couple bought a farm near Goodridge, in 1946. She worked with her husband her whole life, helping in all aspects of farming.
Jeanette was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, the Ladies Aid and also belonged to the Homemakers Group serving as president. She liked to paint, stitch, grow flowers, ride her 4-wheeler, do yard work, pottery and wouldn’t let John mow the lawn, because it wasn’t cut right. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Jeanette is survived by husband, John of Goodridge; children, Roger (Mag Melgaard) of Goodridge, Rodney (Sylvia) of Goodridge and Cheryl (Brian) Kellogg of Peru, Mass.; three grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Vernie) Marquette of Lincoln, Neb., Fred (Melba) Marquette of Ft. Myers, Fla., Kenneth (Willie) Marquette of Las Cruces, N.M., Spencer Marquette of Arcadia, Fla., and Frank (Annella) Marquette of Moorhead; sister, Helen DeBord of Rock Falls, Ill., Esther Johnshoy of Longmont, Colo., Agnes Swanson of Rock Falls, Ill., and Frances (Mike) Johnshoy of Kalaheo, Hawaii; sister-in-law, Gene Marquette of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy M. and half-sister, Doris Flack.
