Thief River Falls - Richard “Dickie” Swanson Jr., 71, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 31, at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Burial will be at Community Cemetery, St. Hilaire.
Richard Harold Swanson Jr. was born June 24, 1934 in Thief River Falls, the son of Richard and Pearl (Anderson) Swanson Sr. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. He attended elementary school in St. Hilaire and graduated in 1952 from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls.
He worked at Sjulson Turkey Farm, St. Hilaire for 10 years, also Swiss Sanitation Corporation for 10 years and served in the National Guard for several years. Dickie farmed with his brother, Loren for many years in Sanders Township, Pennington County. He enjoyed fishing, driving around in the country, mowing the grass and in general, just being at the farm.
Dickie is survived by brothers, Robert (Marie) Swanson and Loren Swanson, all of Thief River Falls; nephews, Kent (Cindy) Swanson, Rob (Kim) Swanson and Bruce (fiancé, Rhonda Bengston), all of Thief River Falls; nieces, Jill (Mark) Theis of Glyndon and Tracy Kriel (fiancé, Bruce Zaeske) of Fargo, N.D.; 10 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Pearl.
