Thief River Falls - Verna Lillian Froiland died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls.
Family funeral services were held Thursday, December 22, at Johnson-Green Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls with the Rev. Arlen Hermodson officiating. Special music was performed by Reid and Dane Froiland. Casket bearers included Verna’s Grandchildren. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Verna Froiland was born July 27, 1911, the daughter of Oscar and Julia (Rhodegaard) Liden, in Thief River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1929.
Verna worked as a lab technician for the Bratrud Clinic in Thief River Falls. On August 23, 1936, she was married to Bernhard Froiland in Detroit Lakes. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Verna enjoyed sewing, golfing, crocheting, and playing piano. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a Cub Scout Den mother. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church committees and taught Sunday school for many years. Following the death of her husband, Verna worked as a secretary for the Thief River Falls Public Library until retirement.
She is survived by daughter Sandra (Lloyd) Berger of Alexandria; son Barry (Susan) Froiland of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Matthew Berger of Worthington, Kristi (Mike) Malmgren of Apple Valley, Sarah Berger and fiancée Bryan Herr of Minneapolis, Reid Froiland of Crookston, and Taylor, Dane, and Marah Froiland of Thief River Falls; brothers, Kenton Liden of Fergus Falls, and Duane Liden of Battle Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister, Harriet Liggett, and brothers Arvill, Lyle, Emmett, Donovan, and Ardell Liden.
