Crookston - Ruth Nelson Barros, 78, died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Riverview Health Care Center, Crookston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, with Rev. Arlen Hermodson officiating. Interment will be at Silverton Lutheran Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church, Thursday.
Ruth Marie Rose was born July 24, 1927 in Leeds, S.D., the daughter of John and Wanda (Garett) Rose. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Plummer, and graduated from Pershing High School.
On May 10, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Ernest Nelson at McIntosh. Ernest died June 11, 1988. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls, while Ruth worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She also managed the Lincoln Hotel, Red Lake Falls. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1967, and she married Gordon Barros in August at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruth worked at Club Café, Rex Café, Kife’s Café and Northwest Medical all in Thief River Falls. She provided daycare for the elderly and the last few years looked after people’s homes.
Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies’ Aid and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, watching old movies and loved animals. She made the best potato dumplings.
Ruth is survived by children, Elmer (Sandra) Nelson of Thief River Falls, Raymond (Lou) Nelson of Little Falls, David (Joann) Nelson of Thief River Falls, Mary (Zane) Kemvitski of Badger and Richard (Jammi) Nelson of Thief River Falls; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Ernest and Gordon, her parents; step-parents, Ben and Nora Johnson; brothers, Emil and Donald Rose. A00003B2005DC14
