Thief River Falls - Violet Laurel Holmstrom, 85, of Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Stadter Center in Grand Fork’s, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 28, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Casket bearers included Jeffrey Holmstrom, Michael Holmstrom, Brian Konrad, Brent Gilbertson, Trevor Haugen and Thomas Iverson. Honorary casket bearers included Bradley Holmstrom, Steve Holmstrom, Wayne Holmstrom, Irvin Jarshaw, Dale Johnson, Mark Johnson, Marshall Ness, Lowell Trochmann. Interment was held at the Rindal Cemetery in New Solem Township, Marshall County.
Violet Laurel Holmstrom was born December 10, 1919, in Marshall County, the daughter of the late Nels and Inga (Hall) Johnson, where she was raised and attended Busy Bee Country School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Rindal Lutheran Church.
On September 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Vernon Holmstrom in Newfolden. The couple lived and worked in various places throughout the upper Midwest, until they returned to Thief River Falls in 1974, where they made their home and had since resided. Vernon died on October 12, 1987 and Violet continued to live in her home until December 2004, when she entered the Oakland Park Nursing Home. Violet was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Barry (Edith) Holmstrom of Madison, Wis., and Craig (Sandra) Holmstrom of Red Lake Falls; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen (Norris) Trochman of Thief River Falls; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson and Ella Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Nels and Inga; brothers and sisters, Clifford Johnson, Burton Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Lowell Johnson and Violet Lorraine.
