Detroit Lakes - Ernest J. Moe, 81, of Detroit Lakes, and formelry of Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, October 5, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 10, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, N.D., with Father John Kleinschmidt, celebrant. Interment was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Minto, N.D.
Ernest James Moe was born December 15, 1923 in Emerado, N.D. to James and Dorothy (Curtin) Moe. He grew up on a farm in the Minto area and attended country school. Ernest was drafted into the United States Army and later served in the United States Maritime Service; 1942-1946. After his discharge from the service he farmed in Minto. He was united in marriage with Adelaide Rolczynski in April of 1947 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, N.D. Following marriage they moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where they also farmed.
In 1971 they purchased a Dairy Farm near Thief River Falls. Adelaide died in January of 1996. Ernest retired from farming that same year. In September of 1996 following Adelaide’s death, Ernest moved to Fargo and lived with his daughter, Judy. He moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes in 2004.
Ernest loved farming and being with the animals, and he enjoyed music. Ernest was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, the American Legion, and the Blind Veterans Association. He was a past member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls.
Ernest is survived by two daughters, Judy (Jim) Antonovich of Fargo, N.D., Carol (Tom) Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.; three sons, Roger Moe of Minneapolis, Jeff (Susan) Moe of Brighton, Mich., Larry (Holly) Moe of Frazee; one sister, Evelyn Johnstone of Bellevue, Wash.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Adelaide in 1996; four brothers, Edwin, Willmar, Erwin and Harold.
