Thief River Falls - Ronald Alby, 68, died Sunday at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at Rindal Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 (today), at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Ronald Allen Alby was born July 29, 1937 in Thief River Falls, the son of Albert and Esther (Thompson) Alby. He was baptized, June 30, 1938 and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, on June 1, 1952. He grew up and attended Newfolden Community School and graduated June 2, 1955. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959.
Ron married Mary Sather on September 17, 1960 and to this union 6 children were born. On July 18, 1981, Ron was united in marriage to Donna Mae Stone in Thief River Falls.
He worked for Falls Supply, was parts manager for Westside Motors and started working at Arctic Cat in 1987, from which he retired in 2003. He also bartended for many years at the American Legion.
He liked to hunt, and never missed Goosefest until this year. He was very patriotic and was active in the American Legion and the 40&8. In his early years he was a member of the Jaycees and Sportsmen’s Club. He was meticulous. He belonged to the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. He was recognized for donating 10 gallons of blood to the United Blood Services.
Survivors include five children, Shari Long of Hanna, Wyo., Steve (Maria) Alby, Jason (Ginger) Alby, Judd (DeAnna) Alby and Jared (Krista) Alby, all of Thief River Falls; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sister’s, Bernice of Thief River Falls and Carol (Roy) Norum of Golden Valley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; son Shane; parents and grandparents.
