Thief River Falls - Marian Vatthauer, 74, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 02, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Glyndon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 7, at Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, with Rev. Mel Sich officiating. Casket bearers include Matthew Vatthauer, Reid Vigstol, Joshua Schmitke, Benjamin Schmitke, Ron Juneau and Dan Trontvet. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church, Friday.
Marian Adeline Sollom was born December 31, 1930 in Newfolden, the daughter of Kettle and Hilda (Langlie) Sollom. She grew up and attended country school rural Newfolden. Marian graduated from Newfolden High School.
On October 12, 1951, Marian was united in marriage to Harold Ernest Vatthauer in Viking. She was employed as a nurse’s aid at Budd Hospital, Roseau, Mercy Hospital, Thief River Falls, Falls-Starekow Clinic, Thief River Falls and for over 30 years, she worked as a nurse’s aid at Northwestern Hospital and then finished her time in “Central Stores” department.
Marian was a member of Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, White Cross at the church and was active in Christian Women’s and the women’s group at church. She liked to quilt, sew for her children and grandchildren, attend athletic games and concerts of her children and grandchildren and visits with friends. She especially loved to tell stories about the past.
Survivors include her husband, Harold of Thief River Falls; three children, Neilden (Pam) of Rochester, Edlyn (Sandra) of Arlington, Texas and Renate (Greg) Schmitke of Glyndon; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Norma (Harvey) Anderson of Princeton, Verna (Clyde) Christensen, Thief River Falls and Elvida (John) Kasteline of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Elwood (Marie) Sollom of Rancho Palos, Calif. and Adrian (Sue) Sollom of La Mirada, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ronalie Vigstol; son, Karlan Vatthauer, parents, and two brothers, Harvey and Arlan Sollom. A00003B2005OT05
