Fertile - Ruby LuVerne Oftedahl, 85, of Fertile, died on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile. She was born on March 6, 1920, to Louis and Nora (Anderson) Peterson near Twin Valley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile. Interment will be held at the First Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile.
Ruby was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. She attended Four Corners Country School (the school was positioned where four townships met), near Twin Valley. Following her schooling, Ruby worked at a restaurant, café, and, during WWII, for Josten Manufacturing at Owatonna.
On November 3, 1945, Ruby was united in marriage to Leon Oftedahl at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Flom. They made their home in Twin Valley until 1949, when they moved to Fertile. Ruby was a homemaker and her husband worked for Ottertail Power.
On January 5, 1992, Ruby’s husband died. Ruby was a member of First Evanger Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid and Sunday school.
Her tremendous smile and pleasant spirit made Ruby a joy to be with. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, especially her famous raisin bars, sewing, embroidery, reading, growing flowers, and most of all, family gatherings. Ruby wrote in her final wishes, “I love my children with all my heart, as well as my grandchildren, sons-in-law, and daughter-in-law. For what you accomplished, I am proud of all of you. With all my love, mom.”
Ruby is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Arne) Teigland of Moorhead, and Noreen (Howard) Henrickson of Goodridge; one son, Thomas (Melissa) of Fertile; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Arvid (Ethel) Peterson of Dilworth; one sister, Delphine (Hubert) Zak of Ellendale; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, Donald Anderson, three brothers, Arthur, Lloyd, and Lester; and two sisters, Lorraine Halverson, and Olivia Schon.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the First Evanger Lutheran Church, Fertile.
