Middle River - Edith Larson, 87, of Middle River, died on Sunday morning, September 11, 2005 at the Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 14, at the First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Casket bearers included Ron Moen, Steve Holm, Bruce Lunsetter, Marc Schenkey, Mark Stromsodt and Marvin Christofferson. Honorary casket bearers included all of Edith’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edith E. Larson, the daughter of the late Alonzo and Alma (Olson) Nellis, was born on May 13, 1918, in Scotland, S.D. As a child, she moved with her family to Bemidji. Edith graduated from Minneapolis South High School in 1935. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. On June 5, 1942, Edith was united in marriage to Fred Larson in Thief River Falls.
The couple resided in Thief River Falls until 1948 when they moved to Middle River. They owned and operated the L.B. Hartz Grocery Store in Middle River until 1959. Edith was employed at the former Berg Drug Store in Middle River for many years. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, of the Ladies Aid, and still served as church secretary.
She was also a member of the Middle River American Legion Auxiliary. Edith really enjoyed being with family and friends, crossword puzzles, and watching sports on television. Fred passed away Dec. 19, 1976, and Edith continued to make her home in Middle River.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Eldon) Sparby of Middle River; two sons, Rick (Muriel), of Gatzke and Steve of Middle River; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Howard Nellis.
