Middle River - Esther Qualey, 92, of Middle River, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 9, at the First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Casket bearers included all of Esther’s grandchildren. Interment was held at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River.
Esther Louise Qualey, the daughter of the late Tharvold and Serena (Hanson) Wasley, was born on February 10, 1913, in Thief River Falls. She was raised on the farm and attended country school in Numedahl Township. She attended Oak Ridge Church near Thief River Falls.
On December 14, 1933, Esther was united in marriage to Gust Qualey at Newfolden. The couple made their home on a farm near Newfolden and moved to Middle River in 1940. She was a homemaker and later worked as janitor at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. She worked at Land O Lakes turkey plant and worked in the potato field for several seasons. She worked for the Green Thumb Organization in Middle River.
Esther was a long-time member of the First Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Gust died on January 15, 1986, and Esther moved to the C.N.C. Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls in 1997. She is survived by children: Marilyn (Robert) Lorenson of Middle River; Sheldon (Diane) Qualey of Middle River; Kathryn Hoehne of Neenah, Wis.; Janet Logan of Middle River; and Linda (Dan) Demaskie of Shawano, Wis.; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Agnes Hayden of Minneapolis; Doris (Kenneth) Finstad of Thief River Falls; Ruth Englestad of Carrington, N.D.; and Margaret (Verle) Copp of Lake City; two sisters-in-law, Vernice Boeing of Madison, Wis., and Gladys Haugen of Thief River Falls; son-in-law, Keith (Linda) Gram of Middle River; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Richard; daughter, Gayle; son-in-law, Calton Hoehne; one grandson; one great-grand-daughter; and three brothers, Sigurd, Leon, and Harold.
